A large room with lots of small communication and friendly spaces which supports children to gain confidence in using their voices.

Compass Point South St School & Children's Centre

South St, Bristol BS3 3AU, UK – 0117 377 2340

Compass Point South St School & Children's Centre is great school and have good manegement my kids attended since 2013 the school deserved more then 5* but I cant find more then 5 * thank you

My son has been going to the nursery for about 2 years now. They are generally wonderful, he's stimulated, they have the right amount of staff and the staff spend a lot of time with the kids. Would recommend, but as usual the waiting list is long!

Torwood House School and Nursery

8 Durdham Park, Bristol BS6 6XE, UK – 0117 973 5620

I have been working with Torwood Independent School and Nursery and I am heartened to find such a deep commitment to achieving the very best outcomes for the children throughout the school and nursery. All childcare should claim to be professional and focused, but here it goes so much further - they are consistently striving to be the best they can in support of and for the education of children.

After School Care

Mama Bear's Day Nursery and Pre-school, Oakfield Road, Clifton

17 Oakfield Rd, Bristol BS8 2AW, UK – 0117 974 2929

Our little boy attends Mama Bears Oakfield Road and we couldn't be happier with this nursery. The team are fantastic, very caring and nurturing, imaginative and huge fans of messy play (which is great as a parent who does not enjoy messy play at home). The nursery offers wonderful outdoor space which they use all year round, a ball pool room, sensory spaces as well as individual rooms for different age groups. Our son has flourished in this environment and loves being part of this nursery community.

My daughter likes a lot this place because she met quite a lot new friends. The staff is polite and gentle with the kids and during the week I feel safe about my little princess. When I pick her after work she has hard time leaving. And if you could have seen her in the beginning - she was crying not to leave her there! Definitely a child friendly place.

i-Play Soft Play

Broadwalk Shopping Centre, Broad Walk, Bristol BS4 2QU, UK – 0117 370 2442

I loved it. Best soft play in town for two years old. She can comfortably explore all sections and price is very reasonable. I prefer this to play space

Great for very little ones (1-6 maybe up to 9ish). Small but well designed. Decent little cafe bit. Very reasonable prices, will be going again.

Abbeywood Tots Bristol City Centre

7-8 King St, Bristol BS1 4EQ, UK – 0117 969 3990

A wonderful nursery with brilliant staff. My little one has been here for a year and absolutely loves it. The nursery provides a great range of structured activities both indoors and outdoors (including forest school and visits around the local area) and I am constantly amazed at the amount my child has learnt whilst here. An excellent choice with a lovely environment and good central location.

Very surprised to read this. My children were looked after by this manager when she was at Filton. She runs a very tight ship but the children are always very happy and enjoy the nursery every day.

Cleve House School

254 Wells Rd, Bristol BS4 2PN, UK – 0117 977 7218

Cleve House School has been the โ€˜hidden gemโ€™ of South Bristol for too long. Now under new management, this school energetically thrusts forward with creative flair and a new vision. It remains true to its core values of traditional education in the 3Rโ€™s and providing each pupil with a sound moral backbone. The pupils delight in a host of extra-curricular activities and a newly formed PTA is actively hosting and organising events for all. The warm family feel this school emits is truly unique and children build happy memories that go well beyond the school gates.

Thank you Cleve House, for giving two generations of my family a wonderful start in life. I will always remember the whole school sitting on and around the main entrance hall stairs for our assemblies and feeling extremely proud wearing my duffle coat! Mrs Lowe, my music teacher was fantastic and she helped me gain a real love of music!

Special Needs Schools around you

Aurora St Christopher's School

Carisbrooke Lodge, Westbury Park, Bristol BS6 7JE, UK – 0117 973 3301

Andy Rule's Letter on Aurora St Christopher's School. I am so appalled to read about Andy Rule's Letter about how his stepson was treated at St Christopher's School and that the toys were put out of reach and the pillowcase sown to his sheets so that Andy's stepson could only lie on top of the bed instead of under the sheets. When I was a pupil at St Christopher's School way back in the 1970s this sort of thing did not take hold. It seems to be what was a good Rudolf Steiner Educational based School got out of character some decades after. The carers who have worked at the school in recent years should be disciplined in court how they have treated learning disabled pupils. They would not have been Christians to do this because if they were Christians they would not have dragged Andy Rule's stepson from a taxi back into the lodge as they did. How cruel. St Christopher's School was in my gene when it was Rudolf Steiner Educational Base as Rudolf Steiner is in my blood. I am a Rudolf Steiner fanatic and a great reader of him. Adult Education

Bristol Folk House

40a Park St, Bristol BS1 5JG, UK – 0117 926 2987

An amazing variety of courses ("learning for pleasure!). I attended the pottery day course this weekend and I would 100% recommend it.

Shame about the toasties we had. For ยฃ4.50 and ยฃ5.00, we expected it to be served with a generous salad. Unfortunately it was just literally toastie on a small plate! Pretty disappointing on the value. The toasties were very tasty but did not fill the void.

Clifton Wine School

Radisson BLU Hotel Bristol, Broad Quay, Bristol BS1 4BY, UK – 07854 239926

A very enjoyable evening in Ruth's company. There were plenty of questions from the attendees and Ruth was able to answer every one. She obviously has a vast amount of knowledge and experience when it comes to wine and this made for a fun, but also very educational, tasting.

I really enjoyed the wine with bubbles tasting experience. Ruth is a fantastic wine expert and I learned a lot whilst getting slightly tipsy! It turns out champagne is definitely better than prosecco!

Language Schools

International House Bristol Language School

2 Queen's Ave, Avon, Bristol BS8 1SE, UK – 0117 906 7660

I study Mandarin and German here and come from a teacher background so know a little from the other side of the classroom floor. International House has the best reputation in the field I would say, and the Bristol branch upholds this well. I can say that the teachers here provide excellent, professional, structured lessons in a friendly environment that is conducive to learning with plenty of opportunity for speaking. The textbook materials are current and engaging(no badly photocopied handouts). All the admin staff I have met have been friendly and efficient. Class sizes are just right and not too large that your individual needs are lost in the crowd. I know others who have tried to save money and studied foreign languages elsewhere and got what they paid for. I'm happy with my decision and wouldn't study anywhere else.

I did beginner's Arabic and beginner's Japanese here. I thoroughly enjoyed both courses - the teaching was great, the other students were lovely and from a real variety of backgrounds. I found IH very well organised, always responded to me quickly and offered discounts for early booking, which I made the most of :)

EF International Language Campus - English courses in Bristol

Custom House, Queen Square, Bristol BS1 4JQ, UK – 0117 930 3500

In summer 2014 I visited this beautiful city as a junior student on a course with EF Education First. It was an incredible experience and I have so many memories, which I am thankful for. Bristol as a city is full with beautiful parks and shops. I had two amazing teachers during my 3 weeks and absolutely amazing classmates, who were willing to learn some words from my mother tongue. Also I participated in several activites (visiting Clifton Bridge or exploring graffiti walls around the city), where I got to know many other people from all over the world!

The EF school in Bristol made my summer 2012 an unforgettable summer. It was my first journey all alone, without parents, but I found out that worries aren't needed when travelling with EF. I have met lots of new people from all around the world and made some friendships for life, which is only proved by the fact, that I am still in touch with some of them. If you are deciding who to travel with, I can recommend you EF from the bottom of my heart. And the city of Bristol itself made my trip even better with all of those amazing places.

International House Bristol

I have been accepted to study in the effective center in Bristol and would like to inquire about accommodation Is it an internal residence or external housing, and is there special accommodation for students

It's an excellent place to learn a new language. For me, the most important is find a nice environment to learn, and the IH has been a great choice. All the teachers and the people who work there are extremely nice and are willing to help you with whatever you need. They motivate you and help in the process.

Bristol Science Tutor

Burlington Rd, Bristol BS6 6TN, UK – 07523 544693

We have known Zara for 3 years. She tutored both my daughters in OCR A Chemistry and Biology. They achieved A's and an A*, which was essential for them to get into medical and veterinary school.Zara is a very experienced teacher, who is familiar with exam technique. She prepares and organises lessons for each student tailored to their needs. Her lessons are very structured, she gave very useful notes, challenging and tricky past paper questions and reviewed this in the next session.Overall, she is very friendly, patient and very motivating. We highly recommend Zara to anyone who needs help.

After my AS level in chemistry didn't go to plan we found Zara to try and rescue my A2. She single handedly transformed my understanding of chemistry and raised me to an A in my course work in a matter of weeks. Her tutoring was tailored perfectly to my needs, going from the basics to the higher level stuff which in the end resulted in strong As in my two A2 exams. Her explanations always had great clarity and we never moved on until something was fully understood. It is only due to her tutoring that I was able to secure a grade in chemistry good enough to get me into the course I wanted. I am so eternally grateful and could not recommend her enough.
